I came across your site while doing some research on my father William
T Wootton CDR USNA Ret. Bill Wootton retired from active duty in 1963 and went on to teaching Electrical Engineering at Cal Poly University in Pomona, CA. He taught there until he retired again in 1988. Bill Wootton passed away in 1990 at San Diego, CA. I would love to hear some history and details on my father's experiences while serving on the USS Tracer (AGR 15). W. Turnor Wootton II twootton@snet.net Editor's Note: William T. Wootton was the Tracer's executive officer in 1960-61. Could a shipmate aboard at that time provide some information?? You can also contact his son at the e mail address above. |

While he was alive he didnt talk about his military life much. Would like to know if anyone can tell me some stories of the times he was on the ship. Thanks for serving our great country. God Bless, Patty Lewis Editor's Note: Joe Zumwalde YN1 was a very popular and competent yeoman on the Tracer in 1964-65. We found his name through the social security death index and were shocked and saddened to learn that Joe had passed away at the age of 50. We ask for someone to verify that this was our Joe.. His two daughters replied through our guest book log. They promised to find some old Naval pictures of Joe for our website. June 7 2006 Joe Zumwalde did pass away too early in life but he left quite a legacy. I was aboard in 1964-65 when Joe ran the personnel office. I was an AG1 on the after boat deck. I have corresponded with his daughters when they requested information on their dad. The Zumwalde boys were quite an honor to the U.S. Navy. Not only did I serve with Joe on the Tracer but years later as an LDO, I flew with his brother Dick, (also an LDO Meteorologist) with the Navy's "Hurricane Hunters" Dick retired as a CDR and has since passed away. We are still close friends with Dick's widow, Terri. Ray Boylan |
