| This stunningly beautiful and deeply velvet spider is the largest species on earth. They are very shy and defensive and will readily flick urticating hairs that seem to float higher and stay floating for longer than many do. They do stridulate, and if you disturb one they are liable to do this whilst running. They can hiss as well as any snake when bigger. They have voracious appetites and can move exceptionally fast. Size: Upto 12" plus! Heat: 75 to 85 degrees Humidity: 80 to 90% Habitat: Terrestrial/ South America These are not a beginners spider, they need a higher than average humidity, they are happiest when kept so that they can excavate a shallow burrow under something like cork bark, which also means you may not see much of them. They will eat huge amounts of prey and then fast for several months. Due to their immense size, which is especially obvious in adult females, they need a shallow tank as they can and do climb, and a fall of only a few inches can kill a spider of this bulk. |
