Acanthoscurria geniculata |
These are a fast growing defensive spider. They will readily flick urticating hairs and have been known to "back up" on a hand to frighten you away. Usually if you persist and do the tank maintenance necessary, they settle down, either hiding or staying out of your way. Size: Up to 8 inches Heat: 75 -80 degrees Humidity: 70 to 80 percent Habitat: Terrestrial (Brazil) So far these 3 of mine have shown no inclination to burrow, happily adopting a substitute burrow. They are voracious eaters, only refusing food when they are coming up for a moult. The appetite does slacken off slightly when they get older, but they still eat more than many species. Visually these are a stunning addition to anyones' collection. As they do not burrow they are often in sight so make a good pet for the more experienced keeper, but I do not recommend handling. Other common names are: Santa Rema pink haired, Giant White Knee, Brazilian Black and white and Brazilian stripe knee. |
