Avicularia huriana
Ecuadorean Hedgehog
This is a stunning species of Avicularia. The adults retain a certain amount of the ruby red on the rump, but it is a lot deeper when adult.

Size: in excess of 6.5 inches

Heat: 75 to 85 degrees

Humidity: 70 to 85%

Habitat: Arboreal/Ecuador

These are gentle spiders that are prone to sudden bursts of speed if you startle them. They do have urticating hairs and they can often be seen with the abdomen up at an angle from the rest of the body, generally this is a "please leave me alone" stance.

As with all Avicularia these trees spiders need good ventilation, and if the heat is kept in the mid to upper regions, the supply of a water bowl will keep the humidity up.

Avicularia will also shoot their waste product, often on the glass of the tank, but on occasion at you if you frighten them.

A good second spider for any collection.
