Shanghai Scenes

We've been fortunate to travel around to lots of great places in China, so I thought I'd post photos of them here. So, this page should really be called "China Scenes," but I'm not tech-savvy enough to update the headings and links! I guess it's time for Jenn to visit again and work on the web page with me ;)

	Doing our best to stay warm in the sub-zero temperatures at the Harbin Ice Festival. Harbin is a city way up north, close to the Russian border. (This year it became quite famous around the world when a factory accidentally polluted the town's entire water supply.) Anyway, the ice festival is amazing! All of the structures behind us are made of ice!	2004 was the year of the rooster, so this snow carving was quite appropriate. Snow carving and ice sculpting teams from around the world come to Harbin every year to compete in this festival. January 2004.

	A Nittany Lion in China? At an animal reserve in Harbin. January 2004.	Where there is cold, there are crazy people. These wackos come out every morning for a quick dip in this pool, carved out of the ice. Insane. January 2004.

	Shanghai: A view of the Huangpu River from the top of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. I just can't believe how busy it is! You can also really see the nasty haze of smog that covers Shanghai everyday. We seldom see blue skies in the city because of it. Even on the sunniest days you'd have to go out to the suburbs to see blue above. August 2003.
