My Inspiration
On this page, you will find things that inspire me, whether continuously or just momentarily. There are always constant inspirations in my life, but I find that depending on what's going on in my life, the things that move me can be very different day to day. So anytime I feel passionately about something, I am going to put it on here, because even a fleeting light in life is worth mentioning.
Mood Music The Beach Soundtrack: Something I've had for a while, but hadn't listened to in a couple months. There's nothing better on a sunny day than pumping this soundtrack and cruising in the car with the windows down... ahh smells like summer is on it's way.... Sarah Slean - NIght Bugs: Sarah Slean's new CD is fantastic. The mood of the CD is much different than her last CD, and there are some great upbeat tunes on it. Check it out if you get a chance. The Legions - Demo: Although they aren't official released,so none of you get to hear them until you talk really nicely to Chris to get your hands on this, I've listened to this demo CD a few times now and am really impressed by it. The Legions are the band that Chris K drums for, and although I'm not really a metal fan, their songs are really catchy (and not scary like some crazy death metal that's out there). I hope they become famous so I can be their groupie. Sweet November soundtrack: Quite a girly soundtrack, but I have been listening to these past couple days so I would have light "not disturbing the headache" music. Particularly like the track Cellophane by Amanda Ghost, and the Barenaked Ladies song Off the Hook. See the CD layout. Beth Orton - I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine: This song is going to be used for the end credits of one of my movies (Untitled: Love Story). The lyrics really reflect emotions I have had in my heart recently. Read the lyrics here. Enrique Iglasias - I Have Always Loved You: This song is really pretty. Again it reflects emotions I have experienced in the past. Read the lyrics here. Jewel - Serve the Ego: This song has a really cool sound to it that is not similar to anything Jewel has produced before. It's a great song to belt out while driving. Read the lyrics.
Cinematic Scintillation PUMPKIN!!! This movie ruled beyond belief. Lots of Christina Ricci nipple shots and it was funny as heck. I loved it. Nuff said. Big Trouble: This film was delayed last year due to the terrorist attacks on the US and I was curious to see it just to find out exactly why. I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say it was justified. For a Tim Allen movie, this was an entertaining comedy of errors, featuring standout performance by Zooey Deschannel and Jason Lee. Death to Smoochy: How much do I love Edward Norton? This film was a great addition to his already impressing filmography. Robin Williams was just the right combination of funny and creepy and the songs Smoochy sings alone justifies watching the film. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade: Another anime film from the creators of Ghost in the Shell. I was forced to watch this by Chris, but I was glad because it was a truly fantastic film that I would have never watched had it not been for him. They included in the film interesting allussions to the original Little Red Riding Hood, which I think added to the intensity of the movie. Final Fantasy; The Spirits Within: Well I finally watched this on DVD and I have to admit it was pretty sweet. The animation is top notch and I can't wait to see another film by these filmmakers. Blade 2: Despite what you may have heard, this movie rules. Cool action scenes set to a sweet soundtrack - just don't expect too much of a plot. Time Machine: This movie looked really good. It wasn't. Enough said. Kate and Leopold: If you're a mega-chick or have some sort of unhealthy obsession with either Meg Ryan or Hugh Jackman, you will surely enjoy this film. Otherwise, don't hold your breath between the funny and/or original bits, or you may die. Breckin Meyer was also in this movie, but he and Hugh were not enough to save it from it's predictably Hollywood form. And as cute as Meg is, neither was she. After the film, Kristina and I both argued the outcome due to it's romantic (rather than logical nature). While I don't believe romance is dead... well sometimes the ridiculous outcomes in these films make me want to smack the characters in them. 40 Days and 40 Nights: Although I must admit I attended this movie simply for the scenery of Josh's hot body, I really enjoyed it. It had some nice perverted humour (which is always fun to watch), and the acting was also decent. All in all, I would say it was a quite entertaining flick, with scenery for both men and women (and this includes some nice shots of our very own Vancouver). Sidewalks of New York: Edward Burns strikes again with this intriguing movie about life and love in New York City. He films it almost as a documentary, with characters being interviewed by some unknown camera man, and the dialogue is sharp and witty as in most Ed Burns movies. Definitely rent this one when it hits video if you like his stuff. Monster's Ball: This movie gives me complete hope that if there can be a film where Billy Bob Thornton fucks Halle Berry in a violent matter, that there is also room for my film where a girl's heart ends up burning in a garbage can. Notting Hill: How much of a girl am I? Watched this again on video last night and I just love this movie. Although there is no Academy Award winning reason to love this film so much, the cheesy girl inside me really like flicks like this and Never Been Kissed. Maybe it's just the fact that Rhys Ifans is in it. Slackers: Although this movie definitely did not inspire me to run out and get a college education ASAP or make a hair doll of an attractive classmate, it really entertained me, and made me realized that while most "teen" movies are pure shite, that there is still a giimmer of hope for mindless entertainment. Ghost World: The characters in this movie although not entirely reflecting me and my friends in high school definitely contain elements of how our life was back then. I found that I felt similar emotions to the characters in this film, and when you add in the great performances by Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi, as well as Scarlett Johannsen.
Various Vancouver Theatresports League: Ever since I was introduced to the league by friends Ono, Jarrod and Laura a couple years back, I have become a regular of the vtsl. So much so that they all know me there. I started taking classes about a year ago, and it is so much fun just to get back up on stage and perform, whether to an audience, or just to a class of other artsy peers. I am enrolled in theatresports 201 for the beginning of March and am really looking forward to it. Whether taking classes, or just watching the league perform, theatresports brings out the wilder, more theatrical side of me that so often is hidden. For those who think I am not crazy or spontaneous, wait until you see me perform. I'm funny, dammit!!
