Review: This is mastered from an audience recording of performances during Van's recent West Coast tour with Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. The Vancouver show featured here was the second solo show of two that evening in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and Van was well warmed up. I was at both shows, and this CD really captures the energy of that performance, from the moment when Van enters from stage left, joining Brian Kennedy part way through "Sweet Thing" - the audience went wild. An excellent record of those concerts.

The Pauley material is equally good, containing some electrifying sax work from Leo Green.

See also the companion single CD boot Nights of the Living Icons: a sampler of performances from all three participants in the May 1998 West Coast tour. CIB Archives also produced 2 other boots from the May 1998 West Coast North American Tour: a 2-CD Bob Dylan boot titled California or Bust!, and a single-CD Joni Mitchell boot titled Mostly Melancholia (Los Angeles, May 22, 1998)
