Notes:
In the mood for a '91 Van/Georgie combo? Don't have three-plus hours to
listen to Pagan Streams? Here's the show you've been looking for. Van and
the band are in top form as they cruise through fourteen selections in less
than seventy minutes. These festival-length summer sets are often overlooked
and can be every bit as enjoyable as the more sprawling shows one is liable
to find at other times of the year. This little gem from Berlin is a perfect
example. Offering a great mix from his vast catalogue, Volume Seven should
especially please fans of "Enlightenment" and "Hymns To The Silence". It
includes a lovely version of the toe-tapping "Youth Of 1000 Summers" and an
unbeatable "Some Peace Of Mind", two songs which have often received cursory
treatments but really shine here.
Berlin also offers a glimpse of Van's peculiar sense of humor as he "resorts
to comedy" and renames "Send In The Clowns" as "Send In The Gnomes". This
encore is indeed comical - featuring Georgie's Betty Carter-influenced
backing vocals and Van's amusing attempt at German. Add a rousing,
piano-enhanced "Summertime In England" as the finale and you're sure to see
why this is a favorite of ours.
