Bo Diddley w/ Ron Wood
The Ritz
New York
25 Nov1987
Bo and Ron performed many times together as The Gunslingers in 1987 and 1988
and one of these was recorded and released commercially on Live At The
Ritz and fortunately for you, that album is now out of print so I'm glad
to freely trade my cd. Both Bo and Ron lay down some really rough, tough
guitar licks. My only complaint is the the idiot record companies have given
us a chopped up version of the show with fadeouts between songs. One song,
Hey Bo Diddley is even cut short - bastards!! Most of these ten songs are
Diddley originals, but Wood takes center vocals for three songs. And somewhere
Mick Jagger must be cringing because Wood does an incredibly sloppy take
on "Honky Tonk Women". This won't be remembered as a top 100 kind of
event but it has several very enjoyable moments of genuine rock n' roll here.
And let's not forget - it's Bo Diddly, one of the truly great
rock pioneers with an incredibly distinctive style and sound that has been
copied many times over as the music evolved. What a great legacy!
