Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters
OT Prices
Santa Cruz, CA
17 Mar 88

I'm not all that familiear with Earl's material so many of these song titles are best guesses based on some close listens and some web research. There is a nice crisp sound and performance here. Set I is a bit sterile for me - predictable bar band blues that you'd find in any Texas roadhouse - nothing special as they run through the songs. But then the whole thing really picks up on Set II. Guests start joining Ronnie on stage and it becomes a blues lesson and clearly some new emotion comes forward. You start to feel it. The highlight is probably a very very rare recorded performance by James Thunderbird Davis, the Texas blues vocalist who was thought lost for decades only to resurface in the 80's. Sadly he died (on stage no less) a couple of years after this show.  Unfortunately, the last song fades out (>>) and we've lost the remainder of the show.
