Nick Gravenites w/ John Cipollina
Berkely
4 May 1985
I don't have much information about this disc. It appears to be a studio
session or more likely, a home strudio session. It sounds like a typical
mono reel-to-reel recorsing as there isn't any muscial separation in the
channels. But I don't know for sure, someone was running a mix as you'll
hear a few reverb and channel swapping effectis. There isn't any audience
so this isn't a Thunder & Lightning show. My guess is this was
some sort of recording session or a even a rehersal session for Thunder and
Lightning - the band's name in 1985 as they toured at that time. Because
of the unreleased songs on this session, it's possible that this is material
is from the unreleased studio album of the Nick & John band. They had
already released one album Monkey Medicine and they were often quoted
that they completed about 3/4 of the 2nd album but it's never seen the light
of day. It seems everyone was into Duran Duran in the 80's (instead of decent,
straight ahead blues). Anyway, if this was a recording session
for the 2nd album, that makes it quite rare. These likely would have been
the musicians at that time:
Nick Gravenites: guitar, vocals
John Cipollina: guitar
Doug Kilmer: bass
Greg Elmore: drums
