Van Morrison
Montreux Jazz Festival
19 July 97
Remastered DVD
This effort includes both sound and video enhancements.
While initial reports by those who attended this show back in 1997 were lukewarm,
this show has grown in stature over time to be appreciated as one of the
best of that year, breathtaking in both sound and performance. The show was
filmed professionally as part the Montreux Jazz Festival in the Stravinski
Auditorium, yet despite the fine performance and production, there are no
reports of it ever having been broadcast.
In the only circulating tape, a significant portion of the viewable
screen has been blocked off; our best efforts have been made to compensate
for this defect. In addition, problematic lighting ranging from lime green
to bright red required further balancing for hue and saturation. A screen-edited
copy of the master eventually surfaced, but no more than a handful of VHS
copies ever circulated. When one of those was mailed to the bunker by a VLS
supporter, work on your behalf by our creative team began. This show was
then initially released as the VLS VCD/DVD And You See The Flames.
While adjustments to a "challenging" analog source will of course yield less
than the dreamed-for digital quality, we nevertheless feel confident that
Van fans will rejoice in the results of the newly encoded wide-screen VM
DVD concert with newly encoded video and sound from the Spring In My Heart
CDR.
VLS is justly proud of our most recent efforts to bring to you this remastered
Van classic. Special thanks to kelisarb for the many hours he spent on this
project. Also thanks to Xav for his assistance in the final sound enhancements
which eliminated some annoying clicks found in the song transitions.
