From Wavelength (nr.9) magazine:

A cracking show from start to finish. Van started with Not Feeling It and changed the lyrics to 'my fair-weather friends fucked me about' and growled out Raincheck's 'don't let the bastards grind me down'. He introduced Healing Game with 'this is about the early days back in East Belfast before everything got really fucked up', and stated before Have I Told You that he'd been told to keep his mouth shut because he got into trouble last time he did a rap at Wembley! Then came the only time in the tour that Van and Ray would sing together. Looking back it's easy to see that because this had originally been the first date, it had been planned all along, and that the very format of Van opening up the double bill and Ray's disciplined show, meant there was no real opportunity for Van just to stroll on stage and belt out a Ray number. But we did see the two perform I Believe To My Soul with Van enjoying every minute, throwing Ray a few curves by singing Ray's line 'call me Ray', and leaving us feeling that little special for having witnessed it at all. The press were out again - there was even a review in NME a month after the event - they obviously had a space to fill- and Van-fan Gavin Martin gave Van a decent review for once. But the NME still have a lot of ground to make up. Nicholas Barber in the Independent On Sunday was another journalist fixated by Van's appearance, and he, too, was unable to come to terms with Van's scat singing, claiming he was 'like a stuck CD'.
