Johnny Rivers
Union Station
St. Louis, MO
11 Aug 93

Looks like some monkey business at work here. If you look on db. etree.org, you'll see a couple of Union Station Aug 93 shows by Johnny Rivers - one in St. Louis on Aug 11 and the other is at New York on Aug 12. Sounds a little implausible, doesn't it?

This is actually one show and it is definetly the St. Louis show.  I've listened to it carefully and he starts off the show by saying "This is Chuck Berry's home town, right?" After track 4 (China), he references the fact that he grew up just "down the river" in Baton Rouge. And since both of these tracks appear on the supposed New York show of 12 Aug, it's pretty clear that the New York show actually never took place. Ok, maybe one more piece of evidence -- on Track 9, he makes a direct reference to the "nearby Mississippi River". The only anomaly of the show is on Track 10 at 15 where a different source is used. Maybe this was another audience splice due to a failure of the first recording?

Regardless of the monkeys who preceeded me, this is an excellent audience recording, rating an A+ on my list for sound. But the big mystery is the track editing. There are fade outs after every track. I may get around to re-splicing and retracking this some day as it's a fine show, showcasing Johnny's rock-a-billy style with a couple of fine blues numbers thrown in just for me    ;-)      He may be past his popularity peak the man is a lot lot like Elvis -- he's got it . . . and very people every get it!
