George "Harmonica" Smith
OOP Album - No Time For Jive
Blue Horizon label (7-63856)
1970
Recorded in 1969 in Los Angeles, here's a laidback, soothing blues harmonica
session from 1969 produced by Mike Vernon. There are a few upbeat items --
"Before You Do Your Thing (You'd Better Think)" and "Soul Feet" -- but mostly
George sits back and blows with a relaxed ease. George had a technique
on the chromatic harp where he would play two notes at once, but one octave
apart. He would get an organ-type sound by doing this. George really knew
how to make his notes count by not playing too much and taking his time by
letting the music unfold easily. He could also swing like crazy and was a
first-class entertainer.
