This show was billed as the "Paul deLay Band backs Sumlin but the truth is that this cd is more about Paul deLay than Sumlin. Hubert is almost reduced to a background supporting role for deLay. Hubert gets his licks and moments in the Portland sun but this cd really showcases Paul, not Hubert.

In the late 1970s, Portland harmonica ace deLay played in a band with Sumlin, backing the Sunnyland Slim on a West Coast tour. The two have remained friends and admirers ever since. deLay considers Sumlin the greatest of the Chicago blues guitarists, while Sumlin has said of deLay,  “For my money, he’s the best harp player on the planet.” Their love and admiration for each other comes through on this show. There is an easy going comradarie between them that only true friends usually possess. Enjoy.
