Michael Williams Band
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 5, 2004
Broadcast by KBOO FM.
Michael LePaul Williams, son of the late Junior Medlow Williams, Texas legendary
bluesman (lead vocalist in The Cobras, whose guitarists included Stevie Ray
Vaughan and Chris Duarte), is one of the few guitarists who can claim by heritage
and genuine talent the title of “guitar slinger.” Michael immediately draws
comparisons to his mentors Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jimi Hendrix
with his blistering licks and performance energy. Add to this his soulful
vocals and songwriting skills and you have the ingredients to Michael’s seemingly
boundless talent.
Michael, 26, has already had the opportunity to work with many accomplished
musicians. Besides playing with his dad, Junior Medlow and the Bad Boys, he
has played with Chris Duarte, Breedlove, and Elvis T. Busboy. He has opened
for the Spin doctors, Delbert McClinton and Merle Haggard. Michael’s former
band, “Mojo Hand,” won the 1996 Battle of the Bands in Lubbock, Texas.
After the death of his father, Michael moved to Seattle to pay tribute
to one of his heros, Jimi Hendrix. There he formed the Michael Williams Band,
consisting of veteran players. The Washington Blues society recently nominated
them as “Best Unsigned Band.” Michael has recently performed in Austin, Houston,
and the Dallas area with Chris Duarte and plays regularly at the Experience
Music Project in Seattle.
