Born in Teboulba, Tunisia in 1967, the singer and oud player, Dhafer Youssef lives since 1990 in Vienna, Austria. During his childhood, Youssef was bathed in the traditional songs and music from Islam. Enrooted in the soufi tradition, the music of the oud player and vocalist is open now to other influences, such as improvised music makin use of oriental, jazz and electronic music. I think Youssef's music is some of the most interesting music that I've heard.
