| 8 Mile: Starring: Eminem, Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphey If you love Eminem, you will love this movie. (I know, I did.) Basically, the Marshall Mathers story in a nutshell. My grade: B A Christmas Story: Starring: Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin, Melinda Dillon A delightful tale of a boy, Ralphie, on his quest to get a Red Rider Beebe Gun for a Christmas present, even though his mother thinks he'll shoot his eye out. This movie has become a family favorite. My grade: A A Fish Called Wanda: Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Kevin Kline, Michael Palin This movie is a hilarious story of a heist. Curtis is Wanda, part of a diamond group along with Ken, George Thomason, and her "brother" (who is actually her lover) Otto. They pull off a multi-million pound heist in England, and hide the loot. It seems, though, that Wanda and Otto want it all for themselves. So they turn George into the police to try to find out where he hid the loot. It seems the only person George would have told about where the loot is would be his barrister Archie Leach. So, naturally, Wanda goes up to seduce him, much to the dismay of Otto. My grade: A+ A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: Starring: Zero Mostel, Michael Crawford, Phil Silvers Set in Rome, this movie tells the story of Sudalis, the foulest slave in Rome. He hatches a plot with his master's son to gain his own freedom. This however for many reasons, cannot go as planned. First off, the girl Hero (Crawford) desires has been sold to a powerful Roman general. And Sudalis' master is supposed to be out, but of course, must return. It all turns into a crazy chariot chase and a happy ending. With a wonderful cast and laugh out loud lines, this turns out to be a musical I actually liked. My grade: A- A Knight's Tale: Starring: Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Shannyn Sossamon Ledger leads as William Thatcher, a squire who takes his dead master's place in the joust, posing as Ulrich Von Lichtenstien of Gelderland. He travels from competition to competition, with all the traits of a real athlete. Not only is he amazingly talented, but has two squires, a herald, a personal blacksmith, an arch enemy, and is in the process of winning the heart of Jocelyn, a beautiful, royal, spectator. And all is well until he travels to his boyhood home in Cheapside, and is unknowingly followed by his enemy, Count Adamar. With a talented cast, with the exception of Sossamon, the medieval tale has a likeable moderness to it, including Queen's "We Will Rock You" and the tunes of David Bowie. Despite a few historical anachronisms, all in all, the movie was enjoyable. My grade: B+ Airplane!: Starring: Robert Hayes, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves A classic spoof comedy which is a favorite of many. Memorable lines including "Don't call me Shirley", "A hospital? What is it?", and "No, I've been nervous lots of times", make this movie a Knee slapping classic. As for the story, you just have to see it. My grade: B Amelie: Starring: Audrey Tautou, Isabelle Nanty, Serge Merlin Even if the whole movie is in French (there are subtitles!) this movie is the highly enjoyable account of Amelie Poulain, a single, only child, waitress in Paris. She finds a box belonging to a former owner of her apartment in her bathroom and goes on a quest to find him. She decides that if he is happy to get his box back, she will do more good. He is and she therefore, unites a co-worker and her admirer, befriends the Glass Man, and attempts to return a lost photo album. Oh yes, and in the process, finds love. Lighthearted and airy, this film is a sweet, saccharine alternative to an everyday American movie. My grade: A American Graffiti: Starring: Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams This movie is a sparkling example of George Lucas' work. With an all-star cast, this movie tells the story of a group of high school kids close to graduation, not sure what to do. Guest stars include the likes of Harrison Ford and Wolfman Jack. A cute story set in 1962, but not one of my favorites. My grade: B Agree? Don't Agree? Email me! Want to find another movie? Go back to the Movie Review Homepage! Want to browse more?
