| History of the Trafford Hill Vineyard | ||||||||||||||||
| Situated in the hillside above Normanville, South Australia, overlooking the Gulf St Vincent, Trafford Hill Vineyard has been operating as a boutique vineyard and winery for seven years, although the vines have been planted on the property for over twenty years. The vineyard operations and winemaking are shared between Irene and John Sanderson. Irene has studied and specialised in viticulture and vineyard management, whilst John takes the wine - making responsibilities, drawing on the expert advice of 'veteran' winemaker Allan Dyson, as his hands on experience develops. Irene has rejuvinated the vines and the vineyard soil culture over the last few years by a combination of modern hand pruning techniques, natural fertilizers and a minimalist approach to chemicals. All wines are made from grape varieties grown on the property, the vines are hand pruned and picked and the production is by traditional methods. Five wines are produced, a 100% Rhine Riesling varietal, a delightful sparkiling shiraz, a full bodied Rhone style Red blend and two Ports. Separate tasting notes are available for each wine on this web site. An interesting feature of Trafford Hill is the naming by John and Irene of the Family Reserve Red Blend, Sparkling Shiraz and Sam-Jack Port - after one of their beautiful Grandchildren, Monique, Isabella and of course Sam Jack. Enjoy Trafford Hill wines, they are handcrafted with care and passion and represent the best of the emerging premium wine region of the Southrn Fleurieu. |
