Faery Frequently Asked Questions
This is an FAQ I have put together through questions I get asked often from the site and IRL. Some of these things may seem simple, or are probably mentioned somewhere in my Fae section of the site. This is here however for people who can't seem to READ. Secondly, because I've gotten them all at least four times and I think that if I get the same question four times off the same site I may not have been clear enough. Don't feel bad for reading this FAQ it doesn't make you lazy, but if you have read the other articles it may be a lot of repition (or maybe not).
What do faeries really look like? This depend on what kind of faery you are asking about. However, the fae can range in size from great mountian like devas to tiny flower faeries. Often, their shapes may be fluid and indefinable. One is equally as likely to find a grotesque faery as a very beautiful one. Most fae can shapeshift and change their shape at whim. Occassionally you will find a fairy which appears in human form. Many fae will take the appearance which we associate them with, simply because humans expect it. Natually though the enviroment in which they live determines their shape and colours.
Do faeries have families? While no one is really sure, I believe and many others believe they do not have families as we think of them. Those fae who are not solitary, have a communal way of life living in tribes rather than "families." There have been however many stories of faery parents with children, but this may just be simply humans imposing their ideas onto the fae. However, they have a strong sense of unity to other of their realm. How intelligent are the fae? Like in humans, intelligence varies from fae to fae and group to group. In my experince, many faeries are taught the healing arts, ecspecially in herbalism. There are also many skilled artisans and metalworkers in the realm of faeries. Elementals are developing intelligence and work with simple, repetitive tasks like helping blades of grass to grow or a human maintain the human body. Over time, these individuals will evolve to a greater intelligence. Many faeries are know for their knowledge, wisdom, and wit. Do faeries exist only in Europe or do they inhabit other countries as well? I would hope not to get this question, but maybe my list of the fae are simply not diverse enough. However, faeries are found in every country of the world despite that our "classical" images of faeries have come from Europe. They are found wherever there is nature. What is the difference between faeries and spirit guides? The biggest difference between faeries and spirit guides is that guides have a larger connection with the Earthly realm and work more intimately with the Earth and all it's experssions of life. A faery may be one of our guides, but many guides have lived in human form at one point or another. Nature spirits are found predominatly to help reconnect us to the Earth and realise our intimate realtionship with it and life on it and help us awake a greater joy and expression of creativity. Other spirit guides do this, however, this is mainly the job of the fae. Can faeries hurt us or any other astral creature? Yes and no. Can they physically hurt you? This is a very unlikely occurance. Can you get hurt in th astral realm? Yes, most definately. Are all fae and other astral realm dwelling creatures friendly and want to be bothered? No, definately not. Faeries however do not conciouses. They can be mischievous and for many a favourite pasttime is playing ticks on humans. They are fairly well known for their tricks and pranks which can range anywhere from a pinch and souting milk to bestowing ill luck. The fae are also known for their thefts and can be the cause of disapperances around the house. Can humans marry faeries? Some people say yes, others say no this is not possible. In the past when faeries were more accpeted as a part of life, this probably happened. There are many tales which tell of such unions; some happy and some tragic. Traditionally, there were guidelines to be followed for such a marriage to work; most of which were for men who had married a fairy bride. He must not question his wife about her life before meeting him, he must never striker her, and he was not to look upon her at certain times. Such marriages are reported to have happened and in some areas of Wales there are even families which are reputed to have begun with such unions. This would indicate that humans and the fae could at one point mate. In this time, it's likely that this cannot happen but we can still form intimate realtionships. Many people feel that after having been with a faery, no human could ever satisfy them. Other stories tell of human and faery realtionships as being very unfortunate and even exteremly dangerous for the humans involved. Are there humans who have faerie blood? There are some people who literally feel that they came from a union of a human and faery somewhere in their ancestry. This is as likely as it is unlikely really. In such cases these individuals often have an exteremely open link to the faery realm. How can working with faeries help us? The fae will help us develop a stronger foundation in our reverence to all life. They stimulate joy and can help us in our pursuit of creativity. Some faeries can help us with a craft like spinning, weaving, healing, or metal working. Some can help us with crafts like spell working and communicating with animals also. The fae are probably some of the best magickal teachers, if we should be lucky enough to have them. Along with these effect working with faeries may also have a negative impact. Missing things around the house, ill luck, and general mishaps can come as a result of messing with the faeries also. What attracts most faeries? Laughter often will draw them no matter where. Storytelling and music is another way to draw the fae. Children playing also seem to attract them probably because they are less likely to be ignored. Also, the gather wherever nature is allowed to grow free; like in one's backyard. If you really wish to attract the fae, plant some of their favourite plants.
