Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on natural laws which have always existed, however they were not applied theriputically before two hundred years ago.  The Law of Similairs is used throughout homeopathy and is referd to as "Similia similibus curentur" which meals "like cures like."  Homopaths use things to treat symptoms which substances that in large doses cause such symptoms.  For example, if you were having trouble sleeping, coffea tosta would be used to treat it because drinking coffee causes sleeplessness.
Classical homeopathy treatement involves detailed case-taking in which the patient is both examined and listened to carefully while they explain their current symptoms in detail, thier feelings, and thoughts up until the time they came to see the homeopath.  Once the whole picture is seen the results are
then compared to the "materia medica" to find the one remedy to best cover the patient's symptoms.  This remedy is for all mental, physical, and emotional symptoms.  After this one remedy is found it is then administered to the patient in an appropriate dose according to the homeopath's judgement.  After some time the patient will return to the homeopath so he/she may see the effect of the treatment and receive more treatment if needed.
Homeopathy was discovered by Samuel Hahnemann, a German doctor, two hundred years ago.  Ever since, the practice of homeopathy has been practiced in many countires throughout the world, but it started to decline in the 20th century due to the new pharmacy and better surgical techniques.  However, recently it has begun to become very popular once again as an alternative option to conventional medicine for the treatment of many illnesses which conventional medicine as little to no effect.  It can also be used to completement conventional treatment; however you should most certainly never take a remedy and perscription medicine without first consulting both your doctor and a herbalist.
In many countries homeopathic medicine are used commonly by the public for treatment of simple ailments (like colds, flus, etc.) and minor injuries.  Recently there have been many books on the subject also.  As with all forms of treatment there are limitations to homeopathy but it has a very board scope of treatable illnesses as well as the serverity.  It is very useful for a whole range of conditions which conventiontonal medicine has nothing or little to offer.  Some of these problems are eczema, asthma, arthritis, digestive problems, and mental illness.
Homeopathic medicines are all natural.  They are prepared from source substances derived from all of nature's kingdoms:  mineral, vegetable, and animal and from the realm of energy.  The starndardised process of "prtentisation" involves repeated series of steps of dilution and successsion  and this is how all homeopathic medicines are prepared.
All potentised medicines are prepared according to instructions in homeopathic pharmacopoeia.  There are two main pharmacopoeia which are both very popular, the French and German pharmacopoeia.  They are different in many ways.  However, currently there is an effort being made to produce a European Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia to replace the existing ones and standardise homeopathy.
