| Reflexology Reflexology is an anicent practice and was practiced in anicent Egypt, China, and India. American Dr. William Fitzgerald introduced this practice to the west in 1913. Reflexology is vased on the idea that there are reflexes in the hands, ears, and feet that correspond to every organ, and gand in the body. Fitzgerald developed a theory which divided the body into ten equal and vertical zones, ending in the toes and fingers. He decided that pressure on one part of a zone would affect everything within that zone. A therapist, Eunice Ingham, fruther developed and refined the zone therapy in the 1930's to become what is now known as foot reflexology. She noticed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot reflects congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body. When you treat your feet it can have a relaxing and healing effect on the entire body. Reflexology is based on the belife that the body has the ability to heal itself and after injury, illness, or stress it is in a state of imbalance where vital energy pathways are blocked and the body cannot funtion properly. This practice restores and maintains the body's natural equilibrium and enourages healing by applying pressues to these certain areas. Reflexologists use only their hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet. Trained and sensative hands may be able to detect imbalances and deposits in the feet and can then work on these areas and restore the energy flow. Most people find relfexology beninficial. It is suitable for all ages and brings relifes to a wide range of chornic and acute problems. After your body is aliniged regular treatments are a good idea to keep it that way. Not only will it help whatever aliment it was treating but it imporoves ciruclation as well. It is also very relaxing and relives stress and tension; as would most foot massages! |
