Rituals robes are very expensive but are a nice thing to own. If you, like me, can't afford one then simply make one! However because the amount of fabric needed for a ritual robe is no small amount, it's a good idea to look for wholesale fabric outlets where fabric is discounted. Generally, an average size person* will need about three and a half yards or 45 to 60-inch wide material. You can use any material you like, and if you want you can make robes for each sabbat and maybe just a simple one for esbats. However, check with the sales clerk for the shrinkage of your chosen fabric; if it will shrink then it's a good idea to buy more than what was previously mentioned and make it a little bigger. Before you begin to make it prewash your fabric in lukewarm water, this cuts down on shrinkage. To start, fold your fabric in half leaving around two and a half feet at the bottom to cut off for sleeves. Then, find a shirt that is comfortable for you to wear and lay it out at the top of the fabric with the arms folded. With a pencil or washable marker make small dots to use as guidelines extending the line of the bottom of the shirt to the two corners of your fabric. Leaveing about two inches extra at each side cut along those lines. The two inches is room for sewing and movement. Now, take that two and a half foot piece you cut off from the bottom of your fabric and fold it in half lenghtwise/landscape/horizontally and then cut along the fold. Make these now two pieces your arms and pin them to the armholes. Sew them together and remove the pins. After having done all that sew up the seams of the arms. Next, sew the main seams a half inch from the edge; it's a good idea to do this this to be sure they are strong and will hold though movement For the bottom hem, turn under the fabric twice and sew all the way around to secure it. Before you secure the neckline hem like the bottom, try on your robe and make any necessary adjustments.
