Tarot or Rune Pouch |
For many magical people divination is a common practice and a big part of their lives. To these people who practice these things their tarot deck and runes are very precious. These things are powerful magickal tools. In some cases they are used once a day at least. Many people find keeping these items in something other than the card box or some other similar box needed, and a pouch is a nice soloution to the problems that are confronted by practioners of the occult arts. They are good for storing and carrying around these tools. It is also very easy to make such a pouch. It's a very good idea to use a sturdy outer fabric because you do not want this pouch to fall apart with a little wear and tear. Flannel or a heavy cotton or even a wool outer fabric is reccommend. If you plan to embroidery on this then I thing the heavy woven cotton fabrics would be the best choice. The lining can be of a more expensive and less sturdy fabric than the outer fabric. Silks and satin are somewhat traditional fabrics for storing tarot decks in. I also think white cotton would be ecspecially good because not only is white a colour of protection and purity but for stones such as runes would polish the stones as well; fannel will also have this polishing effect. Yet another idea is to match the colour of the lining of your bag to that of the runes; or main colour of the tarot deck (you can also match the colours to that of the oustide). If you'd like to decorate it applicae or embroidery is always something you could do! Personally I like to at least embroider my name and in the case of tarot decks what deck it is (because I have many). To begin first but a nine and a half inch square of fabric and place the right sides together. Sew all around the outside except on one side. I usually chose the top side because it seems the most logical. Also, nine and a half inches is a realative number, you can make it smaller or larger depending on your cards, runes, or whatever. You can use a button, snap, velcro, drawstring, or any other number of ways to close your pouch. You do not have to have anything on the top of fasten it either, you can just leave some extra fabric at the top and simply fold it under to ensure nothing spills out; however I don't really recommend this method! |
