Releasing Fears of Working with the Dark Power

The purpose of this meditation is to help release any fears one may have so that you will be able to work with the dark powers of the Divine.  The dark aspects of the God and Goddess are named the Crone and the Hunter, etc.  Because of modern associations with the dark and evil rather than the opposite and balance of light, you may have come to fear dark aspects.  By understanding the dark aspects of Divinity, you become unified with the whole of the universe and empowered.  Using the Crone and Hunter archetype, accessing this power through a meditation can lead a person to freedom from fears of death, the dark, the unknown, and bring them more full in union with the All.  This meditiation is designed to help open the line of communication between you and teh dark powers through facing and releasing whatever anxieties and fears you may have (known and unknown).
A ritual cleansing bath is a good idea before this meditation.  Perhaps use some herbs like basil, rosemary, valerian, and/or thyme in your bath to help relax you.  Music is not necessary for this meditation but as always it may be used.  You may or may not feel the need to case a circle.
Sit facing the North.  If you are sitting in a stragith chair, place your feet on the floor leaving your legs uncrossed and your palms resting up on  your lap or rest your palms on your knees.  If you are seated on the floor, find a comfortable position and you may wish to place your palms facing either up or on your knees.  Be sure you are sitting straight up (this allows energy to move more feely along your spine).  Breahte deeply and exhale; repeat.  Once your concious mind has become still, continue.
Envision yourself in a small, circular cave with an arched entryway that gives you a view of the outside.  The stony walls and ceiling form an alcove around you.  The ground is covered with soft leaves and moss, and you are sitting on a soft bearskin rug.  You are facing the opening to the cave and see that you are in a secure place near the top of a moutain, at a vantage point that allows you to look out over the forest beneath the mountain.  The Sun is setting, casting long shadows over the land.  The cave darkens.  The Sun disappears completely, taking the last of the colours with it, and the stars come out in the evening sky.  A cool breeze brings the sweet scents of the night to you.  Yo are at peace.
Focus on the question:  "What do I fear?"  Images may appear-they could be very frightening and include images of death, frightening faces, etc.  Let the images come and go, but as each one arrives ask "Why do I fear this?"  listen from the answer, knowing you are safe from any image which appears to you.  Then ask:  "What are tehse fears?"  You may be suprised to find the frightening faces are merely masks.  Let the images be unmasked.  Realise once a fear is known and exposed, it no longer has power over you.  After you have faced your fears and unmaksed them, you may conclude the medtation by saying "Begone!"
The image fades away.  Stars shine again in the sky, you smile, breathe the night air deeply, and as you exhale the tensions of fear dissipate.  You take another breath, and inhale the sense of all being right with the world.  You are back in your place of meditation.
