| Blood Fetishes |
| There are many types of vampires. Aside from the occult classic four there is another group into today's world. Some of these people go by the term vampire, and some would be very offended if they were called vampires. These people are people who enjoy blood and blood play. However, for them blood play is not directly a spiritual endevor nor a survival need. For this groupd of people blood play is just that, play, for fun or for some, sexual arrousal. This is a section about people with blood fetishes. First, let me define "fetish" 1. An object that is believed to have magical or spiritual powers, especially such an object associated with animistic or shamanistic religions. 2. An object of unreasonably excessive attention or reverence. 3. Something, such as a material object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arrounses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual graitification. 4. An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixtation. For the purposes of this essay we will focus on definations 2 through 4. Blood fetishes develop for many reasons. Some of these reasons are popular fiction such as Anne Rice's vampire novels, Duracula, and Poppy Z. Brite. Another reason is that for some reason or another, people are drawn to blood. These people engage in a practice called "Blood Play" or other practices that involve the taking of blood from another. The first time of blood fetishest I am going to talk about is the Hollywood vampire, the fanatic. Weather the object of their obession be Lestate or Duracula. These people try to live out as much of the "vampire lifestyle" as they possibly can. They dress like vampires, take extreme measures to stay out of sunlight, and some may even drive around in a hearse and sleep in a coffin. Most of these people, while their sanity may be questionable, are interesting and nice characters but absolutely harmless. They may or may not engage in bloodplay. If they do engage in blood play they may or may not go about it in a sexual manner. There are also the role players. Like the Hollywood vampires, these sorts of vampires do take on the "vampire lifestyle." However, unlike the Hollywood vampires they probably do not go by names like "Barnibus" or "Lestate" and may or may not have ever heard of them. These people are imitating not an image of popular fiction but a role playing game by White Wolf publishing. In these game there are clans and usually, a role player will associate themself with a certain clan. These people too are usually harmless. There are also people who use blood for purposes other than drinking. Some people, usually women, choose to imitate the Countess Elizabeth Bathory in some ways. These people are usually very, very careful about who they allow to be donors. Although they are not drinking the blood, they are using it in various ways on their body. These people use blood in beauty treatments. Blood facials, blood hair conditioners, and blood massages are all a regular part of their beauty regime. Usually they are exteremely sterlie and most collect blood through needles and syringes. There is at least one salon which specialises in this sort of beauty treatment which uses only virgins in excellent health for donors and doesn't take more than a pint of blood. In most cases these sorts of treatments are safe and possibly even very pleasureable. Another group of people who are likely to engage in blood play may or may not fall into these previously mentioned catagories. These are the people who use blood play as simply an enjoyable activity. Others may use blood play in sexual acts as foreplay. While blood play will never be completely safe, there are some things one can do to be more safe. Safe blood play is more or less common sense. First, AIDS is a huge concern so before you engage in blood play you should check your status. After you begin to engage in bloodplay, be checked regularly. Keep a close eye on your health, never allow yourself to engage in bloodplay when you are already ill. Do not allow someone ot bite you or bite anyone. Use a lancet device or another stainless steel device to make a small incision somewhere on the body. I would not reccomend EVER making an incision on the neck or any area where you are likely to hit a vein or artery. Always be sure you have sterilised your cutting device either with peroxide or boiling in water. Another thing that is a nice addition ot sensual blood play is love and trust. Blood play can be a very powerful, sensual, and binding experince. There have been reports of donors feeling as if the "vampire" had control over them in someway. Blood does contain power and we must always be sure we trust those whom we would allow to take our blood. If one engages in bloodplay recklessly one WILL be hurt. It's more of a "when" rather than an "if." The majority of people out there who engage in bloodplay are sane, sensual people however it does tend to attract a darker, more dangerous element of society also. If you chose to engage in blood play either as a donor or blood drinker please be careful. |
