| In Celtic lore the airts are the four points of a compass, or four directions. This system has influenced many tradition in regard to how the directional correspondences are seen. Many traditons use this correspondence: North: Earth South: Fire West: Water East: Air |
| However, in influence of the airts, some systems use the following correspondence: North: Air to symbolise the cold winds that come from the North South: Earth, the lowest point of the compass and direction that soild things fall due to gravity West: Water East: Fire because of the sun's rising in the East everywhere in the world. |
| The Airts North is ruled by the spirit Tuath. The colour is Black and time is Midnight. South is ruled by the spirit Deas. The colour is White and time is Noon. West is ruled by the spirit Lar.
