| The Alder This tree is associated with water and attracts water spirits. Unicorns and undines love this tree ecspeically. Alder leaves can be made into a tree to treat kidney problems. The Ash This tree is sometimes said to be the ancestor of man. In Greece the powerful familes were believed to have come from Ash Trees. The Ash also plays a large role in Norse myth too. In some places in the world people leave locks of human hair hanging from an ash tree in so their wishes will come true. The Bramble This is a popular tree with the fey because it is wild and protects the penetration of seculded sacred fairie clearings. The Broom The properties associated with this tree are those of flight and astral travel. Fairies aren't found of this tree, they are rather repulsed by it's musty smell. The Elder At one time this was considered an unlucky tree to bring into the house, this was believed to bring a death in the family. However this tree is much beloved by the faeries and possesses a feminine soul. It is healing, fragrant, and magickal. If you'd like to plant and elder tree in your garden it likes to be protected and hidden but will draw faeries to it's garden. The Hawthorn This trees it also called the "Whitehorn" or "May" tree and is probably the most sacred tree to the faires. It's believe if you sit under the thron tree on Samhain, Midsummer Eve, or Beltane you can commune with the fey. To rid yourself of troubles make a ball of last years foliage, tie it with a white ribbon, and burn it on a bonfire new years day. Then, make a ball of fresh thorn brances and leaves and keep it for next years bonfire. The Holly This tree is a symbol of vitality, immortality, and life force. It is a lucky tree to grow in one's garden because it has the ability to ward off negative energies. Many people use this tree d8uring the Yule season and in Yule decorations. It is lucky to burn dried holly branches if they are not still green. Usually this tree is associated with the Greenman, but the male holly tree (prickly one) represents the holly man; while the female holly tree (smooth variegated) represents the holly woman. The Juniper It is unlucky to cut down a juniper tree. This tree has abundance of healing properties and you can make infusions to treat kidney and liver troubles, dropsy, arthritus, and to help the elderly. This is also a protective tree. The Lilac Fey of all sorts are attracted to the beautiful fragrance of the lilac, which is what is considered magickal about this tree. It is believe this franagrance can carry humans into faeryland and the supernatural world. This tree is very beneifical. You can stash the flowers and they may be eaten and are a good tonic for the nervous system. Not to mention the beautiful perfume that can be made with the lilac flowers. English tradition dictates the lilac is an unlucky flower to bring into the home because of its association with death. This supersition may arise from the fear of the lilac's fragarance. The Pine This is a tree sacred to the sun. It is sometimes refered to as "the sweetest of woods." The scent can be used in the reduction of guilt and was sacred to the Neptune and Bacchus as well as the fae. The Silver Birch This tree is associated with Lammas, the moon, the sun, and the stars. It is a symbol of summer's return. Sometimes this tree is referred to as the mother of the oak. The fairies love this tree in the springtime. |
