Updates
(bo-ring)April 26, 2002 - Set up the "Crankyville" EZBoards, totally revamped the site itself. All main pages except the Library -a proposed fanfic archive- and Cruelty -basically the idea behind "For Crankizens" gone crazy- are up.
April 29, 2002 - Got the "For Crankizens" essay up, added a few links, and set to work on converting one of my own fanfics for the library.
April 30, 2002 - Wasted a perfectly nice Tuesday afternoon converting "Crankyheart" into HTML.
May 1, 2002 - The Library idea has been trashed. I decided against it for three very good reasons:
1) I wasted a perfectly nice sunny Tuesday afternoon formatting "Crankyheart" into HTML
2) The resulting HTML documents were, like 1,912K
3) There's no way in hell even the first three paragraphs would make it past Geocities' standards and practices (or whatever)
"Crankyheart" IS formatted and internet-ready up to about the Christmas Episode. If ANYONE wants to steal my fanfic archive idea, be my guest and I'll email the files to you so you have something to get started with.
The arrangement of the site as a whole has also been re-thought. Cruelty has become "Crankonicity", but the general Cranky Cliffs-Notes idea still applies. Library has changed into (wait for it) "Nessie's Whirl" (I kill me) and will house a few essays and maybe a gallery. Links, Boards, and Home are self-explanatory.
May 2, 2002 - Xur becomes the first (besides me) member of the Crankyville Message Boards! Xur is also the first Crankizen to register there without having to make up a new handle (besides me). Weird. Eerie.
May 3, 2002 - Some S.O.B. Already Registered Coaster (aka Coaster) becomes the second member of the Crankyville Message Boards!
May 7, 2002 - Bodhibum (aka Monkey King) becomes the third member of the Crankyville Message Boards!
June 1, 2002 - Basically did the whole damn thing over, as you can see. The colors of this page (I'm too lazy to change them) are about the only remainder of my site's old look. The links have been pared down to a more managable seven favorite favorites. "Crankonicity" and "Nessie's Whirl" have been combined into the Library. Finally, for the most part, all my computer graphics have been sacked and replaced with hand-drawn images.
Me am sooooooo tired.
June 3, 2002 - Slater and Ken Kaminski become the fourth and fifth members of the Crankyville Message Boards (I'm not anal enough to see which one of them actually posted first)!
June 4, 2002 - Daz and I Wanna Be LRT (aka Little Round Top) become the sixth and seventh members of the Crankyville Message Boards!
June 10, 2002 - Commander Claymore (aka probably Wulfgar) becomes the eighth member of the Crankyville Message Boards!
June 15, 2002 - Did a few minor alterations (I had a few too many capitalized file names and I hear that's a big site-building no-no), in preperation for another big, big site overhaul planned for this week. I'm finding the white backgrounds a little too stark and I think I've found a color scheme I might actually like. Let's hope it stays rainy for a few more days!
June 16, 2002 - Went ahead and did the changes listed in the post directly above this one. Does that make any sense? Happy Father's Day, anyway.
July 2, 2002 - I had me an unexpected full week's vacation in Maine! That's why there's such a big gap in updates here. Anyway, there are two new features in the Library. Check 'em out, and have a great 4'th of July weekend!
July 6, 2002 - Madhatter becomes the ninth member of the Crankyville Message Boards! She has also started a round-robin fanfic in the Ever-Cranky board. Yay! Now it has a reason to exist.
July 11, 2002 - TheRealWreck (guess) becomes the tenth member of the Crankyville Message Boards!
July 12, 2002 - I'm at work uploading my favorite banner ads and stuff because RadioBoston.com shuts down this Monday. How much this sucks cannot accurately be measured by today's means.
July 16, 2002 - The RadioBoston.com Banner Ad Archive is now viewable in the Library. I may be taking a bit of a break after this one, but I'll try to be checking in on the forums every other day if I can.
August 20, 2002 - I'm back from my vacation and have officially sworn off online haituses that last nearly a month (if I can help it; I was in nearly tech-free Maine most of last month). I want to get a big new feature up here soon (I feel I owe you guys big), I just have to see which one of the ideas I'm thinking of is most realistic.
I'll probably have a small update soon in the meantime. I think the message board is due for some re-working but I want to ask if any of the members will be heartbroken if that cheesy pastel color scheme goes away. Probably not, but you never know.
Being this neurotic sucks.
September 18, 2002 - Added the first half of "Saturday Morning 2002" to the Library.
September 30, 2002 - Added the second half of "Saturday Morning 2002" to the Library. More importantly, I changed the ghastly pastel color scheme in the Forums' main page and in the Coffee House. If everyone likes it, I'll do a few more changes in the forums I've been worrying over lately (nothing huge though).
Sometime in-between 9/30 and 11/1 - I can't believe I didn't mention this. I went ahead and changed the forums around anyway. Hope you like 'em.
November 1, 2002 - Jessica (Princess Jessica) becomes the eleventh member of the Realm (the boards formerly known as Crankyville)!
November 4, 2002 - Decided not to post the "Crankyheart" Halloween scenes / Doo-dah, doo-dah / Gonna post the Christmas part instead / Oh-dee-do-dah-day.
I suck <:p
Possibly, there will be a cheesy blog-ish type thingy documenting my trip to California. (That is, of course, IF we're definately going. If we don't go, I'll just make stuff up.)
November 16, 2002 - My family and I are STILL not all that sure if we're definately going to Cali, but if we do, this will be the last update for a while. I'm about a third of the way finished with formatting the Christmas Story, and it's looking pretty good.
But, most importantly of all, the Realm's Boards FINALLY have Moderators! Yup, Wreck and Daz have volunteered and, since I've whined about this for months in Crankyland without anyone responding for real, I have just jumped at the chance and given them special powers. With a couple extra eyes on the board, I may get brave enough to let members post HTML and pictures and so on. This is so great! I can't wait til the next time those two log in and find they've got responsibilities now! Yay!
Nessie = dweeb
December 4, 2002 - Got back from California this weekend. Posted a very quick take on the trip. Also testing the format for the Holiday Special.
December 15, 2002 - Posted what I'm calling the BETA version of the Holiday Special story. I'm going to get a second opinion on how it looks before I link to it in the Library.
December 18, 2002 - Holiday Special story appears to be working without a hitch. Is now linked to the Library. I am hoping this absolves me of any update duties until around February (just kidding, I think).
Viewer stats for the Holiday Special stand as follows (for the curious): Introduction: 22; Part 1: 6; Part 2: 4; Part 3: 4; Part 4: 5; Footnotes: 2
Most of those views are C/O me, I'd guess. It'll be interesting to see who starts reading along and gets scared off, and at what point they give up. I'm betting on the introduction of Parca Claus.
Happy Holidays to all!
February 11, 2003 - The account of my adventures in California are finally up today. More interestingly, check out the Viewer Stats for the Holiday Special now: Introduction: 33; Part 1: 11; Part 2: 6; Part 3: 7; Part 4: 6; Footnotes: 3
Parca Claus shows up for the first time in Part Two. Interesting.
March 10, 2003 - My birthday's this Wednesday! AAAAAAGH!!!
Also, I have my Academy Awards predictions in the Library now.
May 5, 2003 - Changed the format of Links and Library so they're a bit easier to navigate. Also, we've got a new feature at the Realm: movie reviews! Damn, I'm creative. I kick things off with reviews of "Newsies" and "Epic".
June 9, 2003 - Three new reviews for you! Enjoy them as this might be the last update of the summer. (Hey, can you blame me? It's been a long, long winter 'round here!)
September 23, 2003 - Two new reviews for you, and my annual report on the fall season's new animated series. Also, the Reviews have their own little page.
October 17, 2003 - Three new reviews are up, along with a new category, and I fixed an annoying editorial mistake on their page. Also, there is a fun holiday-themed feature in the Library.
November 4, 2003 - Four new reviews are up, along with another new category. Background gif seems to be (to borrow a term from another web community [sorry]) farked. No evidence as to why, but other graphics seem OK.
November 24, 2003 - Happy Holidays! Three new Christmas-themed reviews are up, as well as a special feature (see the Library page). Categories in "Library" have been shuffled around a little. Best of all, the cute little Nessies in the background are back!
January 13, 2004 - Happy New Year! Those four completely insane reviews have been added today, as promised. Beware.
February 3, 2004 - Vegas, baby, VEGAS!!! I'm going in a couple of weeks, so I got my Academy Award predictions up early. You also get two new reviews.
March 30, 2004 - Okay, so I've been busy since returning from Vegas. The account of my trip is up, as are three new reviews. Also, the Academy Awards predictions have been updated.
April 26, 2004 - The Realm is two years old!
May 4, 2004 - Account of adventure in Florida goes in the Library. A few other sundry updates. Have a nice summer, everyone!
November 5, 2004 - Toons '04 and reviews of "Dreamchild" and "Godzilla's Revenge".
November 29, 2004 - Toys '04, an About page, and four new reviews. Happy Holidays.
January 19, 2005 - Another small update. Gave the Links page an overhaul. Also, two new reviews.
February 11, 2005 - Fearless Oscar predictions pour vous.
March 14, 2005 - Oscar update and the DND feature with drawings.
May 16, 2005 - California feature and addition of the Big Old List.
July 18, 2005 - Two new reviews. Happy summer!
September 8, 2005 - Gave the Disclaimer a much-needed update, added a new question to the About page, and posted the Toons '05 feature.
September 30 - October 4, 2005 - The Tenth Anniversary of "Mr. Cranky Rates The Movies". Happy Cranktoberfest to all!
October 20, 2005 - Added "Bargain Halloween Costumes" and updated "Toons 05".
December 7, 2005 - This year's holiday feature is the Realm's first crossover with the Party Lair. Cousin LaGremlin graces us with her genius in "The Return to the Land of Bargain Toys". This is also the first time this site has been updated on the new computer. Woot!
January 20, 2006 - I was thinkiing of saving this feature for my birthday or this site's fourth anniversary, but since it may be a long time before I can update again, here's The "Star Wars" Prequel Trilogy Marathon!
March 9, 2006 - Three new reviews for ewes. (Groan...)
May 9, 2006 - 80's Cartoon Movie Marathon!
September 22, 2006 - A sequel to "Amusing Print Ads" and three new reviews. Also, some idiot has been spamming my Guestbook over the summer so, sadly, my Guestbook is down for now. Wah.
November 16, 2006 - The Guestbook has been euthanized. On a happier note, I finally got around to reviewing "The Dark Crystal" and "The Hobbit".
December 12, 2006 - Many Holiday movie reviews and another insane Gift Guide!
January 19, 2007 - I have reviewed the "Star Wars Holiday Special".
April 3, 2007 - I rented "Eragon" just to see how bad it was and that mutated into *three* dragon movie reviews! And as if that's not enough, there was really only one way I could outdo reviewing the "Star Wars Holiday Special". You got it. Oh no, b*tches, she did.
September 15, 2007 - I decided to give the cute new Nessie graphic a trial run so I replaced the old logo thingie with her... and somehow this blew up my Index page. After much panicking and swearing, I managed to find the coding for an earlier version of the Index page. A much earlier version, it turns out. (It still had the link to the forums.) Despite the old, hysterical disclaimer, I think it looks good. Better than a scary blank space anyway. I've got another update planned next month so I'll tweek things a bit. In happier news, I also gave each and every review a nifty graphic that tells you right off what the rating is. (Turns out over the years, I've been giving out lots of Jordans. I am nice.)
October 29, 2007 - So, how about those Red Sox? Anyway, I fixed the index page and added some spooky reviews. Just in time for Halloween.
December 4, 2007 - New. Index. Page.
And on top of this, I got holiday reviews and another insane gift guide.
December 30, 2007 - Repeat: New. Index. Page.
Gave the links page a much-needed (if sparse) update as well.
February 20, 2008 - Added some reviews and a "teaser" for a possible upcoming feature.
March 25, 2008 - Expanded on the super-secret progect a bit only because I'm mad at myself for taking so long to type everything. (Which is a great reason to post an unfinished feature, right?) At least you can read the story about the surgery itself. Fun times.
April 1, 2008 - Finished "Kingdom Gallbladders" earlier this week and, what the hell, gave it a very important addendum
August 13, 2008 - Added some random reviews.
September 22, 2008 - Added two more reviews.
October 23, 2008 - And three more reviews.
November 28, 2008 - New gift guide, new reviews, yeah.
December 5, 2008 - Hell, it's Christmastime! Here are three extra reviews.
December 10, 2008 - Two more reviews!
December 17, 2008 - Four more reviews!
April 21, 2009 - I had forgotten to mention the St. Patrick's Day themed reviews from last month. Weird. I have more reviews and shuffled the links around on the Reviews page (to appease me and the three other people who wondered why "American Rabbit" wasn't in the Superhero movie category.)
May 11, 2009 - Ness comes in to post her four new reviews and learns that Geocities will be no more "Later this year". She is... displeased.
July 8, 2009 - Ness finishes the first half of transferring everything over to the New Realm.
