The picture you see above is a very well drawn representation of Trahald of Stoor. Some of you might know him as ~Gollum~ but his true name is Trahald. Trahald is of the Stoor hobbit family strain, therefore he is Trahald of Stoor. Trahald was born on the Stoor settlement near Gladden Fields in TA (Third Age) 2430 and lived a horrid life until 3019.

Trahald was from an adventerous line of Hobbit. Or so i am guessing since they were not afraid of the water as most Hobbits are. In 2463 he and his cousin Deagol found the One Ring while fishing. i believe Deagol fell into the lake and when he came up he held the One Ring.

Now this wasn't just any day, this happened to be Trahald's birthday. Due to the nature of the One Ring, the cousins started arguing over whom whould get to keep the One Ring. (Keep in mind they had no idea it was the One Ring) Trahald felt he should get to keep the ring since it is his birthday, he felt it should be given to him as a present. But, Deagol felt he should keep it because he was the one who found it and he had already given Trahald a birthday present. These weren't the only reasons they were fighting over it, the power of the One Ring had already started to corrupt their souls.

Trahald brutely murdered his own cousin by drowning him. He felt he rightly deserved the One Ring and killing his own cousin was nothing to worry about. Soon Trahald found out the power of invisibility that the Onr Ring bestowed upon the wearer. But that is not all that the One Ring bestowed upon it's wearer. Trahald used the power of his invisiblity to steal food and cause chaos within the Stoor community.

The One Ring was warping his soul, and his physical appearance. His throat started to make a ~gurgle~ sound when ever he tried to speak, which is where the name ~Gollum~ comes from. The name ~Gollum~ is a word used to describe the sound his throat made and that's what the community started to call him.

The Stoor community drove him out, he was exiled. He took refuge in the Misty Mountains...with his ~precious~ There he tunneled his was down into the depths of the mountain. He lived there for many, many years and the One Ring had corrupted his soul and he was changed forever. He had fallen victim to the power of the One Ring. Instead of the warm, pudgy, fuzzy Hobbit, he was changed into an evil, slouched, scaly, slimy, hissing creature of pure evil.

In the depths of the cave there was a lake, which Trahald had made his home. He lived his days feeding off of fish and the occasional young Goblin that wondered off into the dark. Yes, even the Goblins that lived in the mountain side for generations, were terrified of what was lurking in the depths, of Trahald.

Trahald would have stayed down in the mountain for an eternity, guarding his ~precious~ At least until Sauron found the One Ring and began his evil reign. But that never happened. Poor, poor Bilbo Baggins stole Trahald's ~precious~ and escaped the mountain.

While Trahald was searching for his ~precious~ he was captured by Sauron. Thus Sauron learned the name of ~Baggins~ and set Gollum free to pursue the One Ring. He was then captured by Aragon and turned over to Gandalf who learned the true story of Bilbo and the One Ring.

He then was turned over to the Elves of the Woodlan Realm, but escaped during an Orc raid.

Many moons had passed and many adventures took place, but i will not spoil them for you, read it for yourself.

And here, we come to the end of Trahald's life. After Frodo became the Ring Bearer Trahald stalked him...waiting for his chance to get his ~precious~ back. After a failed attempt at killing Frodo and Samwise, Frodo spared Trahald's life in exchange of an oath: Trahald never attack the Ring Bearer or his company, and Trahald must never let the One Ring fall into Sauron's hands.

Trahald ~faithfully~ leads Frodo and Samwise to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring. But, the power of the One Ring has started to take effect on Frodo and as Frodo is staring into the depths of hell's fire he claims himself Master of the One Ring. This enraged Trahald and thus a fierce battle commenced. It was hobbit against hobbit, each were fighting for their lives, for they knew the price that the loser would pay.

Frodo is wearing the ring on his middle finger. Trahald makes a desperate attmept and bites Frodo's finger, with the ring, off. It was a vailient attempt, but Trahald lost his footing and fell to his doom, taking the One Ring along with him. If it were not for Trahald's actions, the ring would have never been destroyed, and middle earth would have seen an age of darkness.

Now that was a rundown of Trahald's life, here is where i explain why i chose him as my alias and other tidbits.

His real name is Trahald, which is a northern Mannish name meaning ~Burrowing~ Although he is usually refered to as Smeagol, which is an Anglicized Mannish translation of Trahald. Why Tolkien chose Smeagol over Trahald, i still do not know.

i did not chose Trahald of Stoor simply because he is the greatest character, it has more meaning than that. The id has a lot to do with it. The id is the third part of the psyche that is completely unconcious and is the source of psychic energy derived from instinctual needs. So basically this is the truest form of the human psyche i believe. Take away everything, and this is what we are left with, our basic instinct, our primal urges. Take away all of our precious ~civilization~ our advanced technology, our ability to communicate with one another, and this is what we shall use to servive, the id.

When Trahald was cursed by the One Ring, it brought out his id. It warped his mind, took away his ability to hold a conversation although he could speak, but it was very mumbled and he often refered to himself in the third person as ~precious~ It took away any part of civilized manners he had, he learned how to servive using his instincts. He did not rationalize his decisions, he needed to murder to eat, he needed to eat to survive, so murder he did.

That is why Trahald of Stoor is the best character in my opinion. He is a reflection of my soul, he is a reflection of every person's soul. Trahald is everything, because without Trahald, without the id, we have nothing, we don't know how to live.
