Carnegie July 23, 2005
This is the second time I've been in this cave this season. Unfortunately, both times it's been the second cave of the day. Being the second cave of the day on a Sunday (need to be out by 6:00 PM so we all can be home at a reasonable hour so we can go to work tomorrow) we've generally rushed through it and didn't have time to poke around. This is also a very wet cave and can only be entered during dry spells when the "duck under passage" isn't sumped. Last month when I was here, the cave was muddy. This time it was wet with considerable more water because of the rain we had last week.
All in all, it's a well decorated cave considering it's not gated or controlled in anyway (other than flooding). It's floor plan is sort of like an upper case "I". A long passage with side passages at the ends.
Dan played this game of "see how far I can go without getting wet". He did rather well, too. He only slipped once that I saw, although I think unnamed assailants intentionally splashed him. I, on the other hand, surrendered to my inner-child's desire to play in every puddle I could find and sloshed through as much and as deep as I could find.
Every time I leave this cave, I feel like I've shortchanged my visit. I'd like to go back sometime, when the water is very low, and take my time to poke through every hole and passage I can find. It's a small cave, but deserves more exploration than I've been able to give it.
