  TRANS=ACTION is the Atlanta based transgender advocacy and action group that provides information and support for and about all transgendered people in Georgia. We lobby on behalf of the transgendered community of Georgia to State and local political representatives and its chief goal is to preserve the civil rights of transgendered people, allowing them to enjoy the same protection as their fellow American citizens.

TRANS=ACTION's goals include;

  • The monitoring of all legislation, executive actions, administrative actions and regulatory actions impact on transgendered issues and concerns; establishment of liaison with sexual minority, other transgendered, and other transgendered-friendly groups;

  • Mobilization of support for selected candidates who will best advance its mission and goals;

Open lobbying for effective legislation at the national, state and local levels that will impact favorably on the issues and concerns of transgendered people. TRANS=ACTION also seeks to foster and support a real commitment to diversity and inclusion in sexual or gender minority rights movements consistent with its mission and goals.

TRANS=ACTION's tactics include:
  • Politicization and consciousness raising about transgendered civil rights issues and concerns
  • The gathering and dissemination of information regarding acts of discrimination, harassment and violence committed against transgendered people
  • Letter writing, telephone and fax campaigns to congressmen and senators, state and local officials
  • Letters to the editors of print media
  • Interfacing with non-print media
  • Establishing contacts with national, state and local gay and lesbian organizations
  • Lobbying our elected representatives in city and county councils, state legislatures and the U.S. Congress.

TRANS=ACTION is aware that direct involvement in political activism will be impossible for many of us. TRANS=ACTION's tactics are structured in levels of visibility, so that all transgendered people may contribute in whatever way they feel comfortable. If you can't become openly involved, then at least contribute financially to your local TRANS=ACTION chapter. Political lobbying is expensive work, and the radical right has assembled millions of dollars to ensure that discrimination against gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people remains legal.

Over the past three years, Trans=Action has been hard at work with many groups who have introduced bills into their state legislatures. There are many issues that face us and many hurdles to overcome. Like other civil rights movements before ours, we are in for a long hard struggle.

We need your support to make TRANS=ACTION a success!
