'Story Documents' in a Drawing Drawings of the figure are rarely 'just about the figure'. They can also 'document' stories 'told' by different parties involved in creation of and reception of a drawing. To each drawing comes .... stories generated by the artist various 'stories of art' stories generated by the model stories overlaid by the viewer. This drawing is of a model who came to modelling with dramatic arts experience. Each pose by this model was dramaticly composed by the model so that body parts transferred to the face as a focal point.. Some models project the figure as the 'story of the pose'. That is, the model is almost saying, 'the important thing for the artist to draw is the figure.' It is a rather short story but one of many that can be part of a pose. In "Dramatic Pose", it was as though the model was creating the story, 'the energy of my poses culminate in my face.' Other models bring different 'body stories' to posing. Some may bring a story like, 'the grace of dance will make poses special' while others may have a story such as, 'this pose is arty'. The stories supplied by some models can be most annoying and can work against the purposes of the artist. It is very important for the artist to be aware of stories 'supplied' by a model. Ideally, the artist or student artist will be developing personal stories through exploring poses that carry more of the creativity of the artist or student artist. |
