                 "Shade"
This drawing came from a model's pose which was immediately suggestive of Michelangelo's
"Libyan Sibyl".
The tonings in the back opened a field of ripple that 'just had to be captured'.
The artwork was titled "Shade" to reference the fact that it was basically a study in light and shade, but was also reminiscent of Michelangelo's study - a shade of another artwork.
The unfinished nature of the shading allows it to seem like a 'rinse' of tones that is gradually coming over the body.
Though there can be a tendency
to think that 'naked' is the same in any age, it is rare that an image can shed itself of the style of an age.
A
Renaissance drawing is different to images created in Rococo or
Modernist eras.
Most drawing is an attempt to 'document' what is seen or imagined.  In spite of this, an artwork also documents stylistic developments and fashions.
