"TAKE" - Expressive Direction
In Western culture, the naked male figure is already clothed with a number of different meanings.  In the context of the arts, it can be a 'noble' reference to the greatness of man but, in the context of a dark night, a naked male figure can present threat.

Alan Tulloch has chosen the naked male figure to extend his investigations into contemporary masculinity.

"TAKE" features standing 'full frontal' nudes as a first chapter to this project.  The 'straw man' approach is a way to further strip the figure that is already naked.  Additionally the figure is stripped again as models are not allowed to choose their poses.  The poses are designed by the artist to interface with the titles which are seen as 'takes' on contemporary masculinity.

The 'straw man' approach commenced as charcoal drawings but the move to digital drawings could be seen as more fitting for a quest to represent contemporary man.
Being digital, the lines can be reworked without messy erasure marks and can be reformatted using inbuilt line variants available through Microsoft word.  Mixing the line variants produces more line types (some probably never envisaged by Microsoft).
Aesthetic choices were refined to present drawings in a straw colour rather than the default black.

Allowing gallery and website visitors to take home prints of favoured 'takes', gives the audience opportunity to become partakers of expressions in the works.
