Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and Details
Note: This section is always under constant review and change

  1. I have submitted my page to the Webring. What should I do next?
Wait. The Ring Manager(s) will review your webpage and make a decision. This might take some time as we can't check e-mails or stay online 24/7, and sometimes third party opinions are sought out. Give it a full week before e-mailing the Ring Manager concerning the status of your page.
Successful applications will receive an e-mail containing the HTML Fragment for the webring which must be added to the page HTML codes (follow the instructions in this e-mail). This generally means your site has been accepted, and after the HTML Fragment is in place and working, your site will be added.

  2. My site has been removed from the Queue. Why do you do this?
It simply means the application is unsuccesful. Refer to the
Guidelines for possible reasons why this is so. Commonly (but not every time) it is because of the following reasons: (a) Wrong or unknown URL / missing page. (b) It is just another one of those image galleries. (c) The necessary copyrights and credits are missing. (d) *Illegal* contents- Pornography and Hentai materials are not encouraged. (e) There is hardly any (useful) contents on the page to justify its membership. (f) Page uses too much external applications / Java scripts / pop-ups etc. that tends to crash the viewer's web browser or computer. (g) Automatically removed by the webring system after 4 weeks in the queue (likely meaning it will not be added).

  3. My site has been removed from the Webring. Why do you do this?
Refer to the previous question above. Existing members of the webring which are later found to be having the same problems as mentioned above will be removed. In addition, existing members must remember to always keep the HTML Fragment on the page which the URL is listed in the Webring. This is to be fair to the other members in the Ring, as well as making it easier for visitors to navigate the webring sites.

  4. 'Image Gallery' pages exist in the webring. Why not add mine?
It is not the webring rule to reject 'Image Gallery' pages flat-out, but obviously we are weary. The existing Gallery-only pages in the webring deserves to be there because they observed the proper copyrights and credits, and put in effort to make their pages attractive, useful and visitor-friendly. Believe me there is nothing worse than going to site after site in the webring and ending up with the same images (which sometimes take ages to load, and most of the time no proper credits given) with bad layout. The MS webring aims to provide diversity in its member pages, and obviously having a ratio of 1 good website in 20 slow-loading, badly designed websites is not a good thing. There is nothing worse than the pure copy, cut and paste homepages, which obviously takes no effort or careful consideration. Yes, it is a Shirow fan site but half-hearted, ignorant fans? You can have a gallery section at your homepage to join the webring- no problems at all- but please, please have the proper copyrights and credits in place. Even though it is clear that images are for 'personal use' and nothing more, its a sign of respect and appreciation to Sensei Shirow and the effort of other fans. (Note: we are talking about the use of Sensei Shirow's images and obviously if yours is a fan art gallery, there is no problem at all as the pictures are yours to do as you wish (provided you're the artist that is!))

  5. My page is not in English. May I join?
Obviously you may! Again, diversity is the key word and the webring presently has member pages in Spanish, German, French... so there is no restriction on language whatsoever. Chinese, Korean, and even Japanese Shirow fan pages are also welcome. Breaking down barriers and keeping it international. That's one of the beauties of the Web and we love it!

  6. Can I customize my own HTML Fragment?
Yes you may. It is entirely up to the webpage owner how he/she likes the HTML frangment to display. The default fragment provided is merely an example. The important thing is that the following links must be provided: (a)Next Site, (b)Previous Site, (c)List Sites and (d)link back to the webring main homepage. It is up to the webpage owner how and where the fragment is configured, as long as it is present at the linked URL from the webring list and is in good working condition.

  7. Can I use images/logos for the HTML Fragment? Where are they?
Yes. You can use images and logos, but none will be provided by the webring and there isn't any sort of 'official' logo. You will have to provide your own. And again, please note copyrights on images.

  8. Can you list my site on top of the webring sites index?
At present, the webring system for the Shirow webring is set to randomly arrange site listings once a week. Therefore, I think all members will have a fair standing as far as sites listing is concerned.

  9. I want to change the listed details on my webpage. How do I do this?
Check the 'Edit Webring Site' link on the menu and this will display the page for you to edit the particulars of your webpage. You should be able to make the changes by supplying the correct Password (as provided when you submit your page to the Queue).

  10. I want to withdraw from the Webring.
Just drop a short message to the Ring Manager and it will be done.

Last but not least... It might all sound very harsh and difficult, but in reality- it's not. This Webring after all is by fans and for fans of Sensei Shirow and his works. Most of the guides set up here are just merely ways of showing respect and appreciation for Sensei Shirow's hard work and talent. Rather than concentrating on sheer number of sites, we'd like to see better quality, to provide a diverse and good mix of pages. We sincerely hope this will somehow leave a good impression and offer fans or curious would-be fans further encouragement to try out Sensei Shirow's works and to be better-informed. For webmasters and Shirow fan site owners, as long as the passion and good intentions are there (but please don't be lazy or ignorant), there is no reason why you should be refused membership.
