"Being just friends."
"Whoa buster, now you wait just a minute, two seconds ago you said you wanted to be just friends, and now you don't well do you want?"

"What?"
"I want you, I love you, Margaret!"
"Oh Hawkeye! I thought I would never hear you say those words."
"Well I do! And I want everyone to know, so what do you say we get married here?"
" I can't!"
"I understand, I'm sorry"
" No it's not anything against you, but I'm not even divorced, let alone separated from Donald yet."
"Oh."
"I'll file for divorce, our marriage is practically over as it is. So yes I'll marry you as soon as this is all over with."
The couple got married a few months later and never left each other's sides again. The two got their orders before the end of the war to go home and they lived happily ever after together as the Dr. and Mrs. Hawkeye Pierce.
