M*A*S*H is one of the most revolutionary movies of all time. It pushed the marker on how a movie should be made and proved the genius of Robert Altman's directing. With his creative use of almost total improvision and over-lapping dialogue the movie was a movie masterpiece and unique all in its self. Though many of the actors thought Robert Altman was a complete lunatic and they were ready to send him to an "insane asylum" (inside joke, you have to see the movie) they were all pleased with the way the movie came out. This movie became a landmark and is considered a classic comedy. It was adapted from Richard Hooker's book M*A*S*H and captured the main storyline with amazing accuracy, but added some creative scenes to make the movie funnier and fresh (the Hot Lips and Frank scene and the shower scene were both added scenes). M*A*S*H the movie won an Academy award for Best Screenplay. (The funny thing about this is the screenwriter, Ring Lardner Jr. was completely against the movie and hated the way it turned out.) If you haven't seen it, watch it now! |
"Attention! Tonight's movie has been M*A*S*H. Follow the zany antics of our combat surgeons as they cut and stitch their way along the front lines, operating as bombs and bullets burst around them, snatching laughs and love between amputations and penicillin." |
M*A*S*H tells the wild and outlandish story of "Hawkeye" Pierce, "Trapper" McIntyre, and "Duke" Forrest as they try to survive the Korean War as army surgeons in the M*A*S*H 4077 Unit. They soend their days doing surgery and their nights doing who knows what. From Trapper and Hawkeye's trip to Japan to one messy and off the wall football game, these surgeons never let the war get to them and always are keeping a devilish smile on their faces. |

Col. Blake: Hawkeye Pierce? I got a twix from headquarters about you...says you stole a jeep. Hawkeye Pierce: No sir, no, I didn't steal it. No, it's right outside. |
Maj. Houlihan: I wonder how such a degenerated person ever reached a position of authority in the Army Medical Corps! Father Mulcahy: He was drafted. |
[Hawkeye and Duke drive away, having received their traveling orders] Col. Blake: Did Hawkeye steal that jeep? Radar: No sir, that's the one he came in. |
What Do I Think... |
Written By...Ring Lardner Jr. (based on Richard Hooker's novel) Directed By...Robert Altman Produced By...Ingo Preminger |
Trapp: I think the movie is the "finest kind" out there! It's great! M*A*S*H displays Hooker's novel wonderfully and the acting is top notch. If you enjoy the television show and haven't watched the movie then here's how you should go about doing it. Think of the television show and the movie as two totally different stories because they are quite different. Also, this is the best way to go about it because if you think of them as the same story then you'll end up hating one or the other because they're displayed so differently. If you haven't seen it you should check it out! It's a movie classic that will never go out of style. Rating: 5/5 |
