		The main shopping area in Kathmandu is THAMEL. Most tourists and trekkers stay near the undeniable stretch.  Winter and trekking clothes are abundant and please take note that a majority are immitation of North Face, various branded names. Winter CLothes: ***** SHONAS is the best place to get it. No need to bargain as the prices are the cheapest in town.  Owner is a Tibetan lady and she'll refund you if you get the same goods cheaper elsewhere.  In addition, she provides very good information for new trekkers and honest about the quality of her goods.  The shop has a local factory.  Best buys are 1) Micro-fleece 2) Black Diamond Ion light 3) Polyester thermal underwear 4) Fleece products **** COSTUME JEWELLERY Buddounath tourist district.  A wide range of semi-precious stones can be found. These include braclets, ear-rings and pendents.  STones include Tiger-eyes, Topaz, Amethsyt, Moonstones, etc.  Value what it costs before asking for price.     *** SHAWLS Pasmina is one of the best.  There are many shawls and scrafs for friends and family.  Warm wool blankets are also good buys.  *Note some cheap scarves'color runs, so wash with a bit of vinegar before use (old wife's method, but it works!) Bargain for 80 Rps and below....
