Transiting the Panama Canal

15 min after "Sunrise"
Sun finally appearing...
In these wide-angle views you can see the mules on both sides as they guide our ship into Gatun Lock #2.
7:00 AM
7:15 AM
The gates are opening to allow us into Lock #3.  Gatun Lake clearly visible in the distance.
7:25 AM
Once this lock fills, we'll be able to emerge in man-made Gatun Lake -  85 feet above sea level.
7:45 AM
To the left is a view from the back of the ship as we leave the last lock and enter Gatun Lake.  You can see the ships following behind us in the twin locks.  Because there's not enough room to pass through the Gaillard Cut in mid-canal, ships alternate directions with all ships transiting in one direction for six hours at a time.
View from Gatun Lake loking back to the NORTHWEST - that's right, from the Caribbean (Atlantic) side, you travel SOUTH_EAST to get to the Pacific.  Doesn't make sense - until you look at a map.
