Well, this is a little bit sooner than I expected to write about my second pregnancy, but here we go.
Travis and I were on vacation last year in Gulf Shores with my parents when I found out we were pregnant again. We were happy, but very shocked.
This pregnancy was a little different than my first. I was sick the first three months. At one point, I got so sick that I had to be hospitalized. I only had to stay there one night. After that, I began to feel a ton better. Only 6 more months to go!!
With this pregnancy, Travis wanted to find out the sex of the baby. I didn't really want to know since it was so exciting last time. But, I couldn't have him know and me not know. So, we found out the week after Thanksgiving that we were having a BOY!! Travis asked the doctor how sure he was and he said, "I am 99.9% sure that you are having a boy." We were very excited. I was going to try and keep it a secret, but I couldn't hold it in. I had to let everybody know.
Everything was going along smoothly until February. This is the point where I just wanted to die. People began to ask me, "Are you STILL pregnant?" or "Are you EVER going to have that baby?" This is the point where I just wanted to shoot these people!!
In March, I started going to my doctor appointments weekly. In my first pregnancy, I got my hopes up thinking I would go early, so I didn't get my hopes up with this one. The doctor told me I had dilated to 1 1/2 cm and was 20% effaced. I was overjoyed. I had never dilated on my own, so this was a big deal to me. Well, I stayed at 1 1/2 for a while. It wasn't until my doctor visit on April 14th that he told me a different story. He said I had dilated to 3 cm!! Can you believe it? He asked me if I would like to be induced the next morning, that coming Friday, or just wait it out. Let me think.... I think the next morning sounds good to me. So, I called my mom to tell her to pack her bags and come on down.
The next morning, Travis and I got to the hospital at 6:00 a.m. When they finally got done with all the paperwork and hooking me up to monitors and IV's, it was 7:00. They started the pitocin to get things moving along. The doctor came in at 7:30 and got me ready for an epidural. I thought he was doing the epidural a little early, but I wasn't going to argue with him. The epidural kicked in around 8:00 and I was feeling good. About 8:30, I began to feel some pressure. I hadn't had this with Miranda, so I thought the epidural wasn't taking as well. The nurse checked me out and said I was at 6 cm. About 10 minutes later, I began to feel MAJOR pressure. Mom went to go get the nurse and tell her I was ready. The nurse came in, said I was ready and paged the doctor. I knew the nurse was going to have to deliver because I couldn't wait any longer. She told me to go ahead and push and the doctor would be there in a minute. The doctor finally got there and I pushed through five contractions. Ari couldn't wait any longer to come out and meet the world. He is a beautiful healthy little boy. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 14 1/2 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. We couldn't be happier now that he is in our lives. Truly another blessing from God!! |
