Jayme's Breastfeeding Page
Breastfeeding my babies is one of the best things that I have done. I'm getting better at it with each baby.
With my first baby, Sterling, I wasn't successful. We tried and tried, but he didn't want to latch on. Deciding to stop trying after 2 weeks was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I did pump breastmilk for him for 7 weeks. He got lots of love while he drank from his bottle. He is now a very healthy 3 1/2 year-old.
Next came Davis. I so wanted to make breastfeeding work this time! I felt that the troubles I had with Sterling were partly because of the drugs I had during his labor (narcotics & epidural)...so this time I was determined to go all natural. I read a lot and got a lot of support, and was able to have Davis completely drug-free. I can't even describe the joy I felt when he latched onto my breast so strongly and ate for over an hour there in the delivery room. I breastfed Davis for 7 months. We had some issues concerning his weight gain later on, that led me to weaning. I was very sad because I really wanted to nurse him for at least a year.
Now I am breastfeeding Julia. I did have an epidural during her labor, but it was only for a very short time. She came out ready to eat! She nursed for the first 2 hours after she was born, and she hasn't stopped since. She is a wonderful nurser, I couldn't ask for an easier baby. She's gaining weight well, and I am determined to make it at least a year with her, longer if she wants to.
I feel such an incredible love for my babies when they are nursing...such a closeness. Breastmilk is the perfect food for the baby, of course, and it is amazing to think that my body is making everything that that little person needs for nourishment. I love it when they are eating, and they look up at me and SMILE. It's like being in heaven.
Now, I want to share a photo that I took when Julia was only about 5 weeks old. I call it "A Mother's View"...this is what I see when I breastfeed my babies. This is why I love it so much... Jayme
Picture update! Julia is still growing strong...here is my "A Mother's View" picture from 5/20/01 (Julia at nearly 6 months old)...we both still love it!
