Kenis Spears Kenis Spears, 88, of Dry Fork of Shelbiana, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at his home. He was born on Greasy Creek, Dec 16, 1911, a son of the late Sylvester and Melvina Cox Spears. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Kentland Elkhorn Coal Company. He was preceeded in death by one son, Dr. Terry Kent Spears, four brothers; annd three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mattie Kinney Spears; one son Mike Spears of Shelbiana; one daughter, Inas Justice of Shelbiana; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, May 19, in the Lucas & Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Clarence Bowersock, Jack Lucas, Teddy Honaker, Dann Belcher and Curtis Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the Arnie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville, Ky. Maudie Spears Maudie Spears, 84, of Kistler, W.Va., formerly of Shelbiana, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 at the Pikeville methodist Hospital. She was born in Pike County on Oct. 6, 1898, a daughter of the late James W. and Frankie Blair Gillespie. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Adam B. Spears, who died July 24, 1977. She is survived by four sons, Kenneth Spears of Temple, Texas, Don Spears of S. Amherst, Ohio, Jim Spears of Heath, Ohio, Jack Spears of Akron, Ohio. Six daughters, Myra Justice and Patricia Grimmett, both of Kistler, W.Va., Clara Cook of Williamsburg W.Va., Ruby Davis of Ontario, Colo., Bonnie Rooks and Lois Damron both of Akron, Ohio. One brother, Noah Spears of Shelbiana; one sister, Addie Coleman of Newark, Del.; 29 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at the Justice Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freeman Justice officiating and burial following in the Adam Spears Cemetery at Gardner Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Home of Pikeville. Homer Spears Homer Spears, 71, of Constantine, Mich., formerly of Greasy Creek, died Thursday morning, Oct. 22, 1992, at his home. He was preceeded in death by two sons, Harold Spears and Guy Spears; and one daughter, Teneva Swautcoff. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Kinney Spears; one son, Morris Spears of Constantine; four daughters, Edna Wilson of Mansfield, Ohio, Billie Nixon of Constantine, Dorothy Spears of Dunlap, Ind., Fresa Spears of Union, Mich.; three brothers, Bill Spears, Floyd Spears, and Robert Spears; and four sisters, Thelma Dunn, Alma Robinson, Lennie Ratliff and Lou Emma Justice. Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in the Halverson Funeral Home Chaperl with burial following in the Union Cemetery, Union, Mich.
