A warm welcome to Treasure Beach
Treasure Beach is an environmental education
centre run by the Wildlife and
Environment Society of South Africa. Situated on the Bluff, it is only 20 minutes from the center of
Durban, the second fastest
growing city in the world. Mangrove swamps,
freshwater vleis, rocky shores, dune forests and Durban harbour are easily
accessible.
The hands on approach used by the staff encourages the practical
understanding of the ecology and the learner's role in caring for the
environment.
Our understanding of the
term environment includes the political (decision making), economic (jobs and
money), social (people living together) and the biophysical dimensions. With
this in mind, our education courses range from specific ecological studies to
syllabus support such as the arts, urban studies, alien plant control,
recycling, etc.

|
The methodologies that are
used with participants include research, action kits and
guided and / or self guided approaches. Teachers and group leaders are
invited to share in the programme and course design to ensure that the
contents of the course meets the specific needs of the group.
Most schools visit Treasure Beach on day
courses which last approximately four
hours. However, we do have
overnight accommodation which is ideal for groups of up to 70.
Delicious, wholesome meals are provided by our catering staff.
