| What!???!??!? Are you kidding!!?!? Yes you heard right, Trees are going away forever after LAMEFEST. I can't speak for the rest of the band, so I'll just give my own reasoning. When we started playing as Trees after being Dissension it was a much needed shot of enthusiasm. For me, simply the act of taking time to decide where we wanted to go with the music, and starting fresh made it so much more enjoyable when we did start playing ... and it feels about right to go through that process again. With these songs, playing gigs has only just started to become a little less enjoyable, and rather than give it time to get worse I'd like to bite the bullet now. And why not? I feel like we've pretty much taken this incarnation of the band as far as it is going to go (a distance that I'm very pleased with) and I also feel like we will be maybe doing some of our long term fans (our close friends basically) a favour by giving them something different, a new reason to keep coming out to our shows and supporting us like they have continued to do over the years (rather than just expecting them to keep coming along to hear the same stuff over and over again). So here's the plan ... LAMEFEST will be our last show as Trees. Then we will go away, keep jamming, give some thought to what we want to do different, allow some time to write some new songs etc. ... then come back hopefully with a fairly new sound, a new name, and maybe i'll get a new amp :p My current thoughts are that I'd like to come back with a much softer, subtler sound. I have always had as much passion for writing soft songs as rock songs, but haven't always felt comfortable bringing them to the table with Trees. ?I like the diversity that we had, but I think a band also needs to have some sense of identity ... a line that you can draw in the sand and say "this is what we are" and not the stuff on the other side (bad metaphor i know :p). So to make up for the fact that you might not hear us rocking out as much any more, we are planning to make LAMEFEST the most rockinest loud-as-heck farewell send off ever! We'd really love to see everyone there to make this something special. I know it's a weeknight, but hey, I've got work too and I'm going :) Also, we are still going to record "Late Night Phone Call" for the Ampfest compilation as Trees. It's all goin down at the old Mojos in Freo on Thu 24 Aug around 8pm, and it's only $5 to get in the door. You might even get a surprise treat on entry! |
