Now with and opportunity to form a better ship, the twelve founding members threw themselves into a re-fit. The ship was placed in Space Dock and began her construction. Recruiting meetings were held in the area and even a local paper did and article on the group. The by-laws of the now long gone Draco were re-written according to the new philosophy and goals. A new motto was chosen: " Following the Dream." This motto refers to Gene Roddenberry's vision of a future where people have learned to overcome their petty differences and work together to defeat hunger, disease and war. Each member is offered a chance to grow and express their own truths in an atmosphere of acceptance and cooperation. A future where we have reached for and attained the stars. This ship is dedicated to the goal of making that future a reality. In our own small way, as individuals and as a group, we hope to make a difference in our community and set an example for others to follow. |
In February of 1996, a Star Trek Club, the U.S.S. Draco, was started in the Southern Ohio area. It was an attempt to combine Star Trek and fantasy in one group. The combination led to some great times but also a great number of problems. The struggle to balance the two types of intrests finally caused the group to split into two separate clubs in January of 1999. The Trek-lovers chose to start fresh with a new ship, the Odyssey, and a new goal, to serve the community. This club is the result of that decision. |
