This is one of two charity anthologies to which I contributed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, having always had a weak spot for so hedonistic a city as New Orleans. The stories, largely science-fiction, horror and fantasy, are all thematically linked in that they take place in that region of the United States generally described as "the South". The book is currently available from Lulu.com as either a trade paperback (here) or as an e-book (here); it is also available from Amazon.com here. All proceeds are donated to the American Red Cross.
One of my goals in writing for these anthologies - in addition to trying to help out hurricane victims in my own unique fashion - was to challenge myself to tell a story which I wouldn't normally be involved with. In this case, given the anthology's theme, I decided that I would go western - a genre I usually can't stand, unless Joss Whedon is writing it.
The story is set in Texas - or rather, the MetaTex shard. The basic premise of the story is that some undetailed cataclysm has carved off a chunk of Texas from normal reality, leaving it drifting in the quantum ether... but, agglomerated in this shard, are several parralel realities of that geographic region, following the usual sci-fi interpretations of Many Worlds Theory.
