MORE HISTORY
Some of the information on this page has been handed down from the elders in the family, a fair amount has been documented and some  was found on the internet. If you find anything incorrect please contact me. Having lots of information is fine, having lots of correct information is even better.
YELEY- I have no idea where the Yeley's come from. Dennis Yeley is as far back as I have been able to trace. He was born in Jefferson co., Ohio in 1810. The 1840 Porter Township, Scioto co.,Ohio census lists him as head of household. He married Eliza Wait in 1835 and he lived among several Wait families according to the 1840 census. They had several children; Caroline,Maria,Lavina,Benjamin,Mary,Laffeyette,Ann and James.
Dennis was a soldier in the Civil War. He and his son Benjamin were in the 56th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Company K. In the 1880 Porter Township census he states that his father was from Germany and his mother was from Maryland. I have hit the wall here.

HUGHES- Lindsey P. Hughes is my 3great-grandfather. He was born about 1839 possibly in Ohio or West Virginia.I am almost sure his parents are Job and Elizabeth Hughes. In the 1850 Bloom Township Scioto county,Ohio census he is listed along with Job and Elizabeth and several other children.James,Martha,Isaac,Milton,Elizabeth,Margaret,Joseph and Jane were their names. He is aged 10 so it makes the age about right.Lindsey married Sarah Jane Meadows on May 7,1857.                                       Anna,WIlliam,Joseph,Samantha,Charles,Lucretia, Bertha and Easter were their children. Lindsey was married a couple of times after Sarah. The last I have him documented is the 1900 Scioto county census. Finding his place of death would help find out who his parents are.

HILL- The oldest of the Hill family I have found so far is Joseph Hill.He was born March 16,1837 in Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia). He died March 4,1904 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Joseph married Rachel Phillips on November 24,1855 in Jackson county Ohio.Children:
James Franklin,Mary E.,Tilitha,Margaret R.,Josephine,Ida M.,Joseph C. and Charles W.
Joseph was a soldier in the 56th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Company A in the Civil War. For 15 years prior to his enlistment he lived in Greenfield Township, Gallia county, Ohio. After his discharge he spent five or six years in Jackson county Ohio and a year and a half in Lawrence county,Ohio. His remaining years were then spent in Scioto county,Ohio.

OILER- Ona James Oiler is my great-grandfather. He was adopted by the Reverend John A.Oiler in the late 1890's.Ona's biological parents were said to be Robert Smith and Margaret Meechum or Mitchell. I don't know the story of the adoption or what happened to Robert and Margaret. It was said by some family members that they heard that Robert was with the railroad and Margaret was a waitress. Margaret died and Robert gave Ona up for adoption because of his job. I have not been able to document any of this story.
