Doctor Emett Roberts, a young misunderstood doctor of science stood at his lab desk. Scorned by others of his field, the dark haired, pale skinned man pressed on in turning new and revolutionary ideas into reality. Many of his early experiments failed and made him the embarrassment of the scientific world. Any of his later accomplishments were often overshadowed by his past failures.

But now that was all history. He had not one but two theories that would change the world as it once was. The project was an attempt to duplicate a living organism. After over a year of trying and failing the young doctor finally succeeded at duplicating a molecular structure of certain plant and insect life. A number of months later the experiment was performed on a rodent. Finally, a larger mammal was cloned to create another. One day he knew he had to experiment on people, but he had to wait for the right time. That experiment had to wait on the back shelf. As for his second project, that was one for a self-sustained super energy that could replace all other forms of energy. It was so powerful that it could possible enable mankind to travel to other worlds. But if the secrets of this formula fell into the wrong hands, it could bring destruction to the entire planet. Fortunately, nobody but Dr. Roberts and his trusted assistant Kurtz had access to this top secret project.

Kurtz was a young orphan who was adopted by Emmett’s uncle and became close to the Roberts family. He wasn’t incredibly intelligent, but his heart was always in the right place. At the age of sixteen Kurtz became involved in the work of Dr. Roberts as a messenger. Eventually he had the privilege of being lab assistant to doctor after his first assistant John Tasker left for unknown reasons, stealing many of Dr. Roberts’s computer disks.
The Doctor’s original assistant, John Tasker, going only by his last name was a young delinquent taken under Roberts’s wing after he a childhood friend attempted to break into the doctor’s home. While Tasker’s buddy escaped, the young felon was captured. Rather than turn Tasker over to the authorities Roberts made it his goal to try and reform the young man. Following many months, he thought his attempt worked. He and young Tasker became best friends. The former criminal eventually became lab assistant. For the next two years Tasker would help the scientist in his various projects that he worked on. Emmett Roberts had many enemies. His high risk-taking made him an outcast of many of his jealous counterparts. He had to design a high tech security system around his property. But, even the best security system couldn’t save him and his assistant from a high tech mob group contracted to destroy all the work he accomplished. Unfortunalty the mob group was able to catch the two men by surprise and ransacked the laboratory and beat the two men to a pulp. After that event Dr. Roberts decided he needed more help if he was going to keep his work going. That is when he brought young Kurtz into his field. Kurtz not only proved to be of great use but also showed that he was a more dedicated follower than Tasker. Dr Roberts and Kurtz worked close together more and more, all the while Tasker was becoming less a fixture then he once had been. Eventually, Tasker began resorting back to his old ways. But it was not until Holec, the dark Lord of the underground made attempts to lure in Tasker that the young man really begun to change his outlook.

At first it was a question of whether or not to stay with Roberts. Later, the question turned to how he would deceive Roberts. Holec promised that Tasker would become powerful, wealthy and have an adventurous life that once could never tire of. All the while Dr. Roberts knew nothing of what was happening other that the fact that his friend seemed troubled, his mind in a different world. He often would ask Tasker what was troubling him, but would only get a cold “Nothing’s wrong with me Emmett” From the young assistant. The final straw was drawn when Dr. Roberts used Kurtz as his helper for his latest project rather than Tasker. The angry, jealous man later took off to see his eventual leader Lord Holec.

He would visit Roberts’s lab once more, but only to take his belongings and steal some of the doctor’s valuables, including many top-secret formulas. With all that Tasker stole, he still did not manage to take the one disk containing the super-energy project. Emmett was actually very sad to see Tasker go, but still was not aware of how much trouble he and his work were now in. He and Kurtz pressed on, hoping that Tasker would see the light and return. He would return, but with a different goal in mind.
